DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1973 (LHW) THE STATION IS LOCATED 9 MILES NORTH-NORTHEAST OF THE DOUGLAS-FULTON-CARROLL COUNTIES JUNCTION CORNER, 8.5 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF VILLA RICA, 4 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF DOUGLASVILLE, AT THE SITE OF THE DOUGLASVILLE DOUGLAS LOOKOUT TOWER. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 20 AND STATE HIGHWAY 5, ABOUT 2 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF DOUGLASVILLE, GO SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 5 FOR 1.6 MILES TO A FORK. CONTINUE ON HIGHWAY 5 FOR 0.2 MILE TO A CROSSROAD. TURN LEFT AND GO SOUTHEAST ON COUNTY ROUTE 173 FOR 0.15 MILE TO A ROAD RIGHT. (TO REACH REFERENCE MARK 3, CONTINUE ON ROUTE 173 FOR 0.15 MILE TO A CROSSROAD. CONTINUE EAST ON PAVED ROAD FOR 0.35 MILE TO A FORK, THE CENTRAL BAPTIST CHURCH AND THE MARK IN THE SIDEWALK.) TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTH AND WEST ON A DIRT ROAD FOR 0.15 MILE TO THE TOWER AND THE STATION. STATION MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS STAMPED DOUGLAS 1973. THE SURFACE DISK IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 33 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE DIRT ROAD, 32 FEET EAST-SOUTHEAST OF NORTHEAST TOWER LEG, AND 26 FEET EAST OF THE SOUTHEAST TOWER LEG. THE UNDERGROUND DISK IS SET IN THE TOP OF AN IRREGULAR CONCRETE MASS 40 INCHES BELOW GROUND. REFERENCE MARK 1, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED DOUGLAS NO 1 1972, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 44 FEET NORTH-NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST TOWER LEG, 11 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF A SMALL FIR TREE, AND 2 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A 2-FOOT HIGH LAND TERRACE. REFERENCE MARK 2, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED DOUGLAS NO 2 1973, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE CONCRETE BASE OF THE TOWER STEPS. IT IS 22.8 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG, AND 18.5 FEET WEST-NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF THE TOWER. REFERENCE MARK 3, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED DOUGLAS NO 3 1973, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE CONCRETE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE CHURCH. IT IS 108 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF STEWARTS MILL ROAD, 80 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF CENTRAL CHURCH ROAD, AND 6 FEET WEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE BRICK STEPS LEADING INTO THE CHURCH. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 22.2 METERS.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
