Found while in town for the TX Mega

Working on a benchmark challenge.
Kinda feel like dining 99 bottles of beer on the wall....only change the words slightly.
40 benchmarks left on the wall.

I was in the Denton area this morning to find a few caches and benchmarks. This on was the easiest to find today--hard to miss. Nice paint scheme on the tank.

01/01/1955 by NGS (FIRST OBSERVED)
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1955 (RLE) THE STATION IS LOCATED AT THE WEST EDGE OF DENTON IN THE GEORGE MC KENNA PARK. IT IS A LARGE CYLINDRICAL STEEL STRUCTURE WITH A DOME SHAPED ROOF AND A FINIAL AT THE TOP AND CENTER OF THE ROOF AND HAS AN OVERALL HEIGHT OF 75 FEET. THE POINT OBSERVED WAS THE CENTER OF THE ROOF.
01/01/1979 by NGS (GOOD)
RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1979 (DAH) RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED IN GOOD CONDITION. THE TANK IS NOW PAINTED WHITE WITH A BLUE-GREEN DESIGN. WHEN THE STATION WAS POINTED ON FROM THE SOUTHWEST, AN AZIMUTH DISCREPANCY OF APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS WAS DISCOVERED. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN--WEST EDGE OF THE TOWN OF DENTON.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1986 RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED. NOTE, THIS STATION IS NGS QUAD 330972 STA 1033 BUT A NEW POSITION WAS ESTABLISHED DURING THE 1979 AIRPORT SURVEY.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in February 1996.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
