Located in good condition at coordinates N 33° 20.549 W 111° 49.977. It appears to be a rivet placed on a concrete block which secures the east end of a drainage conduit crossing beneath and perpendicular to the railroad tracks.

ONe day before work, Mike decided to take a hike along the RR tracks until he got to this one. Found it readily. He didn't bring his camera though.

Wow! This was my first one and the coordinates were off by some 400 ft (stay along the tracks). The object is not at all too impressive, but no doubt serves a purpose. I may add a photo, but as the sun was setting and the camera was on low bat, we’ll see.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1994.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
