HockeyHiker19 and I were walking back to the car and noticed this building seemed old enough to have a benchmark. We walked over and were able to quickly spot it.

One more to go for the Cobre Valley Tomcats tonight!

This is probably one of the easiest benchmark finds in the Globe/Miami area. Especially if you're from the area!

We have picked up our mail within 30 feet of this benchmark, for over 25 years now. But, never paid any attention to the mark!

Not difficult to find, at all!

IN GLOBE, SET IN THE ENTRANCE OF THE U.S. POST OFFICE AT THE CORNER OF EAST SYCAMORE STREET AND SOUTH HILL STREET, 37 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE NORTHWEST CORNER, 36 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE STREET AND 12 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE MAIN ENTRANCE. Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
