Found at N33 24.446 W111 50.055
The BM was covered with about 8 inches of dirt.
Used the marking on the curb to get the direction to dig.

Found in good shape, as described. Took some digging to uncover this one! Removed at least 6 inches of dirt to reach it and then quite a bit around to make sure I'd be able to open and close the lid. Sidewalk marking points the way to the mark.

Recovered. I would expect that this will be buried again soon. I removed some weeds and some debris to get to this one.

Recovered. I searched for quite a bit until I realized that the depression was probably the mark. Dug a lot of glass and garbage and about 1 inch of dirt out of the hole. Opened access cover and it was completely full of dirt. Unburied the rod and cleaned up the place so that the lid closed completely.

Recovered as described, in good condition. Depression in soil was only about 1 inch, having filled in due to weather. Location was N33º 24.447 W111º 50.055 on the GPSr.

Apology for the low quality from my camera phone at night.

Recovered as described. I was here a few days ago and saw the depression excavated by the previous team. The hole had almost been filled up with broken glass, gravel, and other debris, and I thought I was going to chalk-up another destroyed mark...didn't even bother checking the bottom of the hole...lesson learned!

I returned the debris to the hole to keep the mark safe.

We got a metal detector and our digging tools and headed back today. The metal detector confirmed the mark was still there, so started digging.

Recovered in good condition about .6 feet below the current level of dirt/macadam at:
N 33° 24.445 W 111° 50.057 (NAD 83).

Located all items in the description, but the mark was not recovered. Could only dig an inch into the hard soil 6.6 feet South and 1.5 feet East of the North East corner of the security wall, because did not have a shovel and/or metal detector. The mark is probably buried a few inches under the hard soil.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1994.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
