Located with the aid of the home owner, the gentleman had gained information from federal employees who had come to use the Bench Mark. He uncovered the Bench Mark from the grass that had grown over it. A special thanks goes out to this homeowner.

Found as described.

Trifecta Challenge Day 11, Downtown Phoenix today (out of our normal area) and found some neat new sites today (including this one by accident! - but had remembered it was a waymark and stopped to check it out further.)

Geocaches: GC1WQPF
Waymarks: WM899A, WM1PY, WM1PX
Benchmarks: DV0629

The area is maintained by the house on the corner. Please be respectful before recovering. I do not believe that it is in the right of way but on private property. Close enough you should check. Property owner is very nice and was kind enough to provide some information about the area specifically for DV0630 (see that log). Grass has taken over area at the moment and monument itself is pretty worn down on top. The property owner believes that is because the last couple of years he has had people do the lawn and they scalp it twice a year. That is starting to show and the ETTA mark is very hard to still read. Mark is in solid shape and the owner says that every few years a full survey crew comes out to check on its status.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1993.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in November 1993.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
