Super hot day, so I stopped by the Starbucks located within the Wells Fargo to get a huge iced drink. While there, decided to try and find this benchmark! My bad directional sense led me the wrong way at first (tho I did discover a neat antique brick facade in the staff/bank parking lot) but I checked previous finders' photos and eventually found the right spot. Pretty neat!

I looked for this one a few weeks ago when I drove through the center of Orange, but I hadn't looked at others' pictures beforehand, and I ended up stopping probably 20' from the marker! This time I went right to it. Still painted, still has the P98 inked/penciled in, and the paint scratched off the year.

out on an urban caching trip with webfoot today. as we crossed the street, webfoot noticed the plaque, kwikly read it and figured there must be a benchmark here. he checked the app and sure enough, there is a benchmark here. after a couple seconds of searching, he spotted what we were looking for.

Found this benchmark purely by accident, although I had an inkling it would be there. After finding a cache to the south of here, we walked here, and after I noticed the sign on the building saying it was the first bank in Orange, I figured there was probably a benchmark on it. Pulled out my app and found the one I was looking for. Looked at the description and soon found the mark.

Walked right past this one before I searched GC.com. Knew there had to be one around here somewhere. In good shape. Not going anywhere.

We were in the area for an event and a flash mob event. Another cacher mentioned that this benchmark was "over there", so we came to see it.

Very obvious round disk in the side of a building. It has been painted over who knows how many times. Ah well, what can you expect...

We have it posted as a waymark too.

It is painted over but still an easy find

I have a feeling the Antique Store is of interest somehow.

Wow, who knew. Attending the 3rd annual Flash Mob Event at the Orange Circle and CrazySwazy told me about this one. One of the local shop owners watched us as we snapped the shutters. We tried to explain but they had this distant glazed look on their faces.
I think I'm going to look for more of these.

To be logged after the Event on Saturday...waiting for imaging equipment to arrive.

Found this BM on the way to my new job. Started to search for additional BM in the area, but was running late. I shall return to complete a search for the additional BM.

We spotted it while in downtown Orange working on the multi Orange History Tour. I've seen this before, but it was a first for Mrs. CRAWIL.

Recovered as described. Nice place for an antique store, right next to the antique bench mark! Also note the time capsule buried right in front of the antique store. Also appropriate!

Well, First attempt at any entertainment finds with the GPS
I am still trying to figure out how accurate my GPS is or not.

I will make one note to anyone looking for this
When you get your GPS up next to the Mark depending
on what direction your best signal is coming from you
may get wander. At first I sat around the mark, and
watched my measurments go wacky... Walked away about 50 feet away from the building and then it dropped back down to about 60 feet of variable... So i quickly walked back to the mark and snapped these pictures on here.

more to come soon =-)

We were at the circle doing maintenance on Chris' Cache..and decided to do this bench mark. Too bad it is painted over, but still, it was easy to find and read. Did not have our digital camera with us, so hope this is sufficient.

In the area Benchmarking and saw that this one had already been found but no photos. Figured that I should supply some.
This is an active area that has a lot to offer. There are restaurants, antique stores and special events like the May festival. You ought to check it out.
I've included a photo of some old Ford Model T's and A's that meet at the Traffic Circle from time to time for a lttle show and drive.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991. WARNING-Repeat measurements at this control monument indicate possible vertical movement.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
