Finding a benchmark was a bonus! In town to cheer on Siikosys in the Disney Double Dumbo Dare!

photoClose up!

After spending a great weekend at Disney watching our daughter get engaged we picked up the rental car to head north.... And of course needed to test it out around the block. GPS got me close but a picture is worth 1000 words and by past photos it was found easily.
Will post pictures when home.

Now to the coast!

Thanks.

Found before a great day at the park!

We could not find the benchmark, but after getting back from our vacation and looking at the gallery photos, I can see why. That is NOT the same area we were at. I wonder if I typed in a wrong coordinate, but I can't check since my daughter has that gps in Colorado right now. Drats. I really wanted to find one in California!

Enjoy searching out benchmarks and round this one today. This one is still in good condition.

Part of an afternoon of benchmarking with Klemmer and NJE.

Klemmer was kind enough to chauffeur Wintertime and me around Anaheim to pick up some benchmarks. A nice change from my central Florida haunts.

Found as decribed. Sixth of our eight "Power Benchmarking" finds in about 2 hours with Patty & Nick. Well, only 7 for me, since I had found one of them previously. Fun day!

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
