Well, today was the day we were planning on going to JPL's open house in Pasadena. After hearing yesterday, that it was fully impacted by 10:30 am and in the high 90's we were having second thoughts. Woke up late today, well after we were sapped to leave by to get up to Pasadena so we went with plane B and finding a few earth caches in northern Orange County today and of course caching along the way in this 100 degree heat in fall. Today we found virtuals, earth caches, traditionals, puzzles, and multis.

While l was walking down the road to get a geocache under the bridge, I spotted this benchmark, so walked back to the car to get the camera to document this one.

Cruising through Brea Canyon one day and this one just jumped out at me. Checked it out to see if it was in the BM Database and found that Moag Ohana had beaten me to it but no photos. Gotta get it.
I did get coords for this one and came up with N 33* 56.451 W117* 53.200.
Also, there is another BM about 60 west of this one but, alas, it isn't in the data base. Oh well. I've included its' photos too.
Enjoy the photos.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in February 1997.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
