I couldn't find this disk but it was worth going to just to see this really weird place.
Some of the description is correct and I think that I was in the right spot but not disk. OK. But the area around the spot is odd to say the least. There is now a block wall running east and west that keeps you from looking down onto the neatly manicured lawn towards the south. The the industrial building on the south side of the lawn has no windows looking out onto the football field sized lawn. In fact there are no windows anywhere that can look out to this area. I have included a photo of some of this spot just for the 'weirdness' of it all.
The spot where the disk was is fenced in now and you can't realy nose around to see if it is still there or not but I couldn't see it where the description said it ought to be. Oh well.

The disk ought to be up in the dark shadows on the left.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in February 1993. * This is a READJUSTED BENCH MARK height. Code A indicates a distribution rate of 0.0 thru 1.0 mm/km. The height was derived from older observations constrained to new heights in a crustal motion area. The height is approximate in relation to other heights in its vicinity.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
