Found it with Team Geo-Clarks. Didn't see RM 2, so it's probably buried under dirt.

Area. Redlands Blvd.

Nice little ride down a narrow dirt side road. Not recommended for a passenger car. Found the Triangulation Station mark and Reference Mark 2.

Some folks (from outside California, maybe) may not realize it, but MANY benchmarks in CA (and I'm sure elsewhere) were originally set for tracking earthquake fault movements. In this 10 mile or so area, there are more than 20 Triangulation Station benchmarks named "Fault", with letter after it. I have recovered 4 myself recently. Here is some interesting info from a previous recovery log:

....NOTE BY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EARTHQUAKE CENTER ....
....AT THE WESTWARD EDGE OF THE BADLANDS, ON THE NORTHEASTERLY RISING SCARP OF THE CLAREMONT FAULT ALONG THE SAN JACINTO FAULT ZONE.

Here is a link that shows the San Jacinto Fault Zone:

The infamous "Buckshot sign" mentioned in a previous recovery log. I guess "Buckshot shot sign" would have sounded too redundant, huh?

View from RM 2 to the Tri Station

With this years rains, the overgrowth makes marks more difficult to find. At this location, the find was easy. In addition to the shot up Witness Post, there was an MWD marker.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1998. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
