The ONLY one that has "survived" is Reference Mark 9 on the North-South Wall...all other surrounding points have probably been done away with in the Northwest corner of the School.

DESCRIBED BY ORANGE COUNTY CALIFORNIA 1974 (JLC) THE STATION IS LOCATED IN SE 1/4 SEC 29, T 4 S, R 10 W, IN THE CITY OF GARDEN GROVE. IT IS ON PROPERTY OF GARDEN GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WHOSE PHONE NUMBER IS 638 6201. THIS STATION WAS ESTABLISHED BECAUSE LOS ANGELES SOUTHEAST BASE 1889 1958 IS IN THE YARD BEHIND A HOUSE AND A TOWER COULD NOT BE ERECTED OVER THE STATION. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION OF THE RIVERSIDE FREEWAY (STATE HIGHWAY 91) AND EUCLID AVENUE IN ANAHEIM, GO SOUTH ON EUCLID AVENUE FOR 3.7 MILES TO A CROSSROAD (KATELLA AVENUE). CONTINUE AHEAD SOUTH ON EUCLID AVENUE FOR 0.5 MILE TO A CROSSROAD AND REFERENCE MARK 10 ON THE LEFT IN THE NORTHEAST ANGLE OF THE INTERSECTION. TURN RIGHT AND GO WEST ON ORANGEWOOD AVENUE FOR 0.25 MILE TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT IN THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE SCHOOL YARD. THE STATION MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS STAMPED LA SE BASE 2 1974. THE SURFACE MARK IS CEMENTED IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH ROUND CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH IS FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. THE UNDERGROUND MARK IS CEMENTED IN AN IRREGULAR MASS OF CONCRETE ABOUT 44 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. IT IS 41 FEET EAST OF NORTH-SOUTH FENCE ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE SCHOOL YARD AND 15.5 FEET SOUTH OF EAST-WEST FENCE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE SCHOOL YARD. REFERENCE MARK 8 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED LA SE BASE 2 NO 8 1974, CEMENTED IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH ROUND CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH IS FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. IT IS 1.4 FEET SOUTH OF THE EAST-WEST FENCE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE SCHOOL YARD. REFERENCE MARK 9 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED LA SE BASE 2 NO 9 1974, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN AN 8-INCH WIDE WALL THAT PROJECTS ABOUT 18 INCHES ABOVE THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. THIS WALL SUPPORTS THE NORTH-SOUTH FENCE ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE SCHOOL YARD. IT IS 104 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE SCHOOL YARD. REFERENCE MARK 10 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED LA SE BASE 2 NO 10 1974, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A CURB ON THE NORTH SIDE OF ORANGEWOOD AVENUE. IT IS 38 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF ORANGEWOOD AVENUE AND 5 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF A FIRE HYDRANT. THE MARK IS FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE CURB. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 34.5 METERS.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1996. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
