Went out on a nice walk with the family and found this benchmark. Can't add any additional information beyond what is already posted, sorry. It was buried again, so I dug it up and photographed it. Need to bring better tools next time.

Recovered the described mark (UNION 118 RM 3). The "other" RM's were not found. The description(s) are confusing. It seems like this mark used to be one of several RM's for UNION 118, which evidently no longer exists. The other RM's described seem to be RM's of this mark (or maybe they were RM's of UNION 118?). A complete new description will be formulated for the NGS database, as the area has changed substantially.

Submission to NGs on 5-7-2007:

THE PREVIOUS DESCRIPTION OF THE STATION AS '28 FEET SOUTHWEST OF POLE UO 080 64' MAY REMAIN VALID, BUT COULD NOT BE VERIFIED DUE TO THE THICKNESS OF THE BRUSH AND THE STATUS OF THE AREA AS A NATURE PRESERVE. THE OTHER PREVIOUS LOCATION ASSISTS FOR RM 3 (OIL WELL, FENCE, PAVED AREA) ARE NO LONGER PRESENT.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1996. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
