DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1972 (JLC) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 7 MILES SOUTHEAST OF CHICKAMAUGA, 7 MILES NORTHEAST OF LA FAYETTE, 2.75 MILES SOUTHEAST OF ROCK SPRING, ON A HIGH POINT OF PEAVINE RIDGE AND ON PROPERTY OWNED BY MR. ROY NOBLITT, TELEPHONE NUMBER 404-764-1626. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 27 AND STATE ROUTE 95 IN THE SMALL COMMUNITY OF ROCK SPRING, GO SOUTH ON ROUTE 95 FOR 2.6 MILES TO A PAVED SIDE ROAD ON THE LEFT. (TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM HERE, TURN LEFT AND GO EAST ON THE PAVED ROAD FOR 0.5 MILE TO A DRIVEWAY AND THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT.) CONTINUE SOUTH ON ROUTE 95 FOR 0.4 MILE TO MR. NOBLITTS HOME STORE AND SERVICE STATION ON THE LEFT. FROM HERE THE PROPERTY OWNER WILL DETERMINE THE BEST ROUTE TO REACH THE STATION. THE STATION IS ABOUT 0.25 MILE NORTHEAST OF MR. NOBLITTS HOME ALONG THE NORTH EDGE OF A CULTIVATED FIELD. THE STATION MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS STAMPED NOBLITT 1972. THE SURFACE DISK IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH IS 16 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 76.5 FEET EAST-SOUTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND 14 FEET SOUTH OF A WIRE FENCE. THE UNDERGROUND DISK IS SET IN THE TOP OF AN IRREGULAR MASS OF CONCRETE WHICH IS 44 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. REFERENCE MARK 1, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED NOBLITT NO 1 1972, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 14-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 152 FEET SOUTH OF THE METAL WITNESS POST, 150 FEET SOUTH OF THE WIRE FENCE AND ON THE EAST EDGE OF THE FIELD AND ABOUT 15 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION MARK. REFERENCE MARK 2, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED NOBLITT NO 2 1972, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 14-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 1 FOOT SOUTH OF THE WIRE FENCE AND 1 FOOT SOUTHWEST OF THE METAL WITNESS POST. THE AZIMUTH MARK, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED NOBLITT 1972, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH PROJECTS 1-INCH ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 41 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE PAVED ROAD, 13 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF THE DRIVEWAY, 4 FEET NORTHEAST OF A FENCE CORNER AND 2 FEET WEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST. NOTE--THE DISTANCES NOTED ABOVE, REFERENCE MARK 1 AND REFERENCE MARK 1 TO REFERENCE MARK 2, HAVE BEEN REDUCED FROM SLOPE MEASUREMENTS. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 26.6 METERS.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
