Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1934 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 (MAH) ABOUT 10-1/2 MILES SOUTHEAST OF CHATTANOOGA, TENN., 5 MILES NORTH-NORTHWEST OF RINGGOLD, 5 MILES SOUTH OF TENNESSEE-GEORGIA STATE LINE, 1/4 MILE NORTH OF GAP IN BOYNTON RIDGE AND RINGGOLD-CHICKAMAUGA PARK ROAD, AND ON PROPERTY OF W.M. VAUGHN. TO REACH FROM NORTH ENTRANCE TO CHICKAMAUGA PARK ON U.S. HIGHWAY 41 W, GO EAST 3.8 MILES ON ASPHALT ROAD WHICH IS GRAVEL AFTER LEAVING PARK TO TOP OF GRADE ON BOYNTON RIDGE AND HOME OF W.M. VAUGHN ON NORTH SIDE OF ROAD. STATION IS 350 YARDS NORTH ALONG RIDGE FROM VAUGHNS HOME, 5 FEET EAST OF VAUGHN-SWIFT-MC CULLOUGH PROPERTY CORNER, AND 1 FOOT SOUTH OF VAUGHN-SWIFT PROPERTY-LINE FENCE. SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND MARKS ARE STANDARD STATION DISKS IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE AND AZIMUTH MARKS ARE STANDARD REFERENCE DISKS IN SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENTS. NO. 1 IS ON FENCE LINE BETWEEN SWIFTS AND VAUGHNS PROPERTIES AND 89.45 FEET FROM STATION N 86 DEG 16 MIN E. NO. 2 IS ON FENCE LINE BETWEEN VAUGHNS AND MC CULLOUGHS PROPERTIES AND 65.54 FEET FROM STATION S 18 DEG 55 MIN W. DISTANCE BETWEEN REFERENCE MARKS NO. 1 AND NO. 2 IS 129.66 FEET. AZIMUTH MARK IS 75 YARDS SOUTH OF RINGGOLD-CHICKAMAUGA PARK ROAD, 50 YARDS SOUTHWEST OF A.L. MORRIS HOME, ON PROPERTY OF H.M. BOYLES, AND ABOUT 0.25 MILE FROM STATION S 19 DEG 29 MIN E. BEARING FROM STATION TO LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN HOTEL, SPIRE, IS N 75 DEG 01 MIN W. STATIONS LOOKOUT AND HIGH POINT 2 (SEE DESCRIPTIONS AND GEOGRAPHIC POSITIONS THEREOF) ARE VISIBLE FROM GROUND AT STATION.
01/01/1954 by TVA (GOOD)
RECOVERY NOTE BY TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY 1954 STATION FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION. SET A POST ONE FOOT N OF STATION MARK.
01/01/1972 by NGS (GOOD)
RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1972 (JLC) THE STATION MARK AND REFERENCE MARK 2 WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. THE DISTANCE TO REFERENCE MARK 2 COMPARES FAVORABLY TO THE 1934 DATA. REFERENCE MARK 1 WAS FOUND LAYING HORIZONTAL ON TOP OF THE GROUND. THE AZIMUTH MARK WAS SEARCHED FOR BUT WAS NOT RECOVERED. THE STATION COULD NOT BE OCCUPIED OR BUILT OVER DUE TO ITS LOCATION IN A FENCE CORNER AND NEAR A LARGE OAK TREE. TRIANGULATION STATION BOYNTON 2 WAS ESTABLISHED THIS DATE, A TRAVERSE TIE WAS MADE AS NOTED AND IS REDUCED TO SEA LEVEL. TRIANGULATION STATION BOYNTON 1934 AND REFERENCE MARK 2 WERE UTILIZED AS REFERENCE MARKS AND A NEW AZIMUTH MARK WAS ESTABLISHED FOR STATION BOYNTON 2. FOR THE ROUTE TO REACH, THE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION OF ALL MARKS SEE THE DESCRIPTION FOR TRIANGULATION STATION BOYNTON 2 THEREOF. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN 3.75 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF FORT.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
