RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1972 (JLC) THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS 3 AND 4 AND THE AZIMUTH MARK RESET WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. THE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION TO REFERENCE MARK 3 CHECKED THE 1965 DATA. THE DIRECTION TO REFERENCE MARK 4 CHECKED BUT THE NEW DISTANCE WAS LONGER BY 0.008 METERS. A NEW ROUTE TO THE STATION AND DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN FORT OGLETHORPE, GO SOUTH ON U.S. HIGHWAY 27 FOR 0.3 MILE TO THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 2 AND THE CHICKAMAUGA BATTLE FIELD HEADQUARTERS IN THE SOUTHWEST ANGLE OF THE INTERSECTION. CONTINUE SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 27 FOR 3.5 MILES TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT. CONTINUE SOUTH ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 0.15 MILE TO A PAVED ROAD RIGHT. CONTINUE SOUTH ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 0.05 MILE TO A HEDGEROW AND FENCE LINE ON THE RIGHT AND THE STATION. STATION MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS STAMPED BROOKS 2 1961. THE SURFACE DISK IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 2 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS ABOUT 77 YARDS SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF AN ASPHALT COUNTRY ROAD, 79 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF U.S. HIGHWAY 27, 2.6 FEET WEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST, 2 FEET NORTH OF A WIRE FENCE AND LOCATED IN A HEDGEROW. ACCORDING TO THE 1961 DATA THERE IS AN UNDERGROUND MARK. REFERENCE MARK 3, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED BROOKS 2 1961 NO 3, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 6 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 131.5 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY, 61 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF A POWER LINE POLE WITH A TRANSFORMER, 54.6 FEET WEST OF THE WITNESS POST AND 1.6 FEET NORTH OF THE FENCE. REFERENCE MARK 4, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED BROOKS 2 NO 4 1965, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 37 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY, 3.5 FEET SOUTH OF A POWER LINE POLE, 1.4 FEET SOUTH OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND IS ABOUT 2 FEET HIGHER THAN THE HIGHWAY. Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
