SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND MARKS ARE STANDARD STATION DISKS IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARKS ARE STANDARD REFERENCE DISKS IN CONCRETE. NO.1 IS 0.3 MILE NORTH ALONG HOOKER ROAD FROM STATE LINE STREET, 33 FEET WEST OF CENTER OF HOOKER ROAD, ON BANK ABOUT 6 FEET HIGHER THAN ROAD, AND ABOUT 500 YARDS FROM STATION N 36 DEG 01 MIN W. NO. 3 IS AT SOUTHWEST INTERSECTION OF HOOKER ROAD AND STATE LINE STREET, 34 FEET WEST OF CENTER OF HOOKER ROAD, 19 FEET SOUTH OF CENTER OF STATE LINE STREET, AND 237.0 FEET FROM STATION. RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1965 (WAZ) THE STATION AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 3 WERE RECOVERED AND FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 WAS FOUND LEANING BADLY AND UNDER A MOUND OF DIRT. THE MARK WAS PLUMBED AND REINFORCED WITH CONCRETE. A COMPLETE AND THOROUGH SEARCH WAS MADE FOR REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 (THE AZIMUTH MARK), BUT IT COULD NOT BE FOUND. THERE IS NOW A LARGE AUTOMOBILE JUNK YARD IN THE AREA AND THE MARK MAY STILL EXIST UNDER SOME OF THE DEBRIS. NO NEW AZIMUTH MARK WAS ESTABLISHED AS A SUITABLE LOCATION COULD NOT BE FOUND. ALL INTERSECTION STATIONS ATOP LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN MAY BE USED AS AZIMUTH MARKS. FOLLOWING IS A NEW AND COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. THE STATION IS LOCATED IN A LOW, BRUSH COVERED AREA ABOUT 1/2 MILE WEST OF DOWNTOWN ROSSVILLE AND ALONG THE NORTH EDGE OF STATE LINE STREET. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 27 (THIS IS CHICKAMAUGA AVENUE), AND SW GORDON AVENUE JUST NORTH OF THE POST OFFICE IN ROSSVILLE, GO WESTERLY ON SW GORDON AVENUE FOR 0.4 MILE TO HOOKER ROAD, TURN RIGHT, NORTHERLY ON HOOKER ROAD FOR 0.05 MILE TO STATE LINE STREET ON THE LEFT AND THE STATION ABOUT 265 FEET WEST ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF STATE LINE STREET. THE STATION IS 56 FEET EAST OF A GUYED UTILITY POLE NO. P 6092, 54 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF RESIDENCE NO. 410, 39 FEET NORTHWEST OF A 30-INCH, FORKED TRUNKED, SILVER MAPLE TREE, 39 FEET NORTHEAST OF A 24-INCH, FORKED TRUNKED, SILVER MAPLE TREE, 16 FEET NORTH OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF STATE LINE ROAD, AND 1.2 FEET EAST OF A METAL WITNESS SIGN AND POST. A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH, SQUARE, CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 1 INCH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED ROSSVILLE 1934. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS LOCATED ALONG THE WEST EDGE OF HOOKER ROAD ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE ROXBURY SOUTHERN MILLS, 83 FEET NORTHWEST OF POWERLINE POLE NO. P 6016, 45 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF A GATE LEADING INTO THE ROXBURY SOUTHERN MILLS, AND 26 FEET WEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF HOOKER ROAD. A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH, SQUARE, CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 8 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED ROSSVILLE NO. 2 1934. THE HORIZONTAL MEASURED DISTANCE BETWEEN REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 3 IS 279.97 FEET.

THE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION TO BOTH MARKS COMPARES FAVORABLY TO THE 1965 DATA. REFERENCE MARK 1, (AZIMUTH MARK), WAS NOT RECOVERED AS STATED IN THE 1965 DATA. A NEW AZIMUTH MARK WAS ESTABLISHED THIS DATE AS DESCRIBED BELOW. DUE TO CHANGES IN THE AREA A COMPLETE AND NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 0.5 MILE WEST OF DOWNTOWN ROSSVILLE, ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF STATE LINE STREET AND AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF A PARTIALLY CLEARED VACANT LOT. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN ROSSVILLE, GO NORTH ON U.S. HIGHWAY 27, (CHICKAMAUGA AVENUE), FOR 0.1 MILE TO A CROSS STREET. TURN LEFT AND GO WEST ON W GORDON AVENUE FOR 0.4 MILE TO A CROSS STREET, (WILLIAMS STREET ON THE LEFT AND HOOKER ROAD ON THE RIGHT). TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON HOOKER ROAD FOR 0.1 MILE TO STATE LINE STREET ON THE LEFT AND THE STATION MARK ABOUT 260 FEET WEST OF THE INTERSECTION. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK, CONTINUE NORTH ON HOOKER ROAD FOR 0.2 MILE TO A SIDE STREET ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO EAST ON 49TH STREET FOR 0.1 MILE TO A SIDE STREET ON THE LEFT. IT IS 84 FEET WEST OF A POWERLINE POLE, NUMBER P6016, 26 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER OF AND 2 FEET HIGHER THAN THE SURFACE OF HOOKER ROAD. REFERENCE MARK 3, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED ROSSVILLE NO 3 1934, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH IS 4 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE.   • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
