I located THOMPSON MONUMENT 2 (ET1042) in excellent shape.

It's actually located south of "CACTUS" Benchmark, & NOT near "FENCE BM".

Its datasheet has a few errors as to the location of this county monument.

The frustum shaped THOMPSON MONUMENT 2 is actually 176 DEGREES & 279 FT SOUTH of "Cactus BM" - and NOWHERE near "Fence" Benchmark.

Its datasheet (ET1042) incorrectly states:
"STATION IS 14.72 METERS (48.3 FEET) FROM STATION FENCE N 89 DEG 20 MIN E."

THOMPSON MONUMENT 2 is actually 2.8 miles west of FENCE BM, and more near CACTUS BM.
This monument took a lot of research to locate. I'm happy it's in great condition.

This is the "information" side of the 3-sided frustum. It shows it's name (COR. NO. 2) Corner #2 and distance to the next county marker to the west (#1) & to the east (#3).

It's a Maricopa/Yavapai County Marker in the shape of a frustum.

Recovered as described, in good condition. The mark is 181 Ft. southeast , as described in the 1982 recovery for FENCE / ET1044, and not at 48.3 Ft. bearing N 89 DEG 20 MIN E. The mark is quite prominent, projecting nearly two feet

After extensive probing, and determined digging at the listed co-ordinates, a wider survey of the general area revealed this monument. Like the previous seeker, I was overly focused on the listed numbers, and passed this monument off as being something other than what I was looking for. I took this photo on a whim, but later I noticed the 1982 recovery note for FENCE / ET1044, placing the monument exactly where I took this photo. This is the correct style for the series.

Did not find the Mark. Probed the hard packed ground to a depth of 1 inch at the adjusted coordinates but did not find any evidence of monument.
