Had just completed the Wherigo across the street and then waited out some college students going into the gym. Located the benchmark and took a photo.

Interesting spot for a bench mark

1150 hrs. I started my search for this BM without having read any logs beforehand. I did not find any BM at the coords my gps took me to and walked away scratching my head, but then looking over my shoulder I saw something that looked very familiar and sure enough it was the BM. My Garmin had me 90 feet off.

If you haven't yet visited the University of Redlands, this makes a nice excuse to do so. The campus is lovely. Blkbart1

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1994.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
