Looked for this one Tuesday but the building was already locked up. Went back this afternoon and found it quickly. First benchmark I've found inside a building.

Recovered as described. Stamped CHATTANOOGA NO 1. Interesting that it is inside. I had looked briefly for this before, but was at the other end.

Saw it today while caching with friends.

Logged this one walking back to my office on the other side of campus.

Found INSIDE the east door of Founders Hall (which extends south from the west end of Race Hall (see FC1178), about one foot inside the door and 4.3 feet north of the door's centerline. Handheld coordinates are N35-02.763 W085-18.013. This is the second indoor mark that I've found.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
