DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1958 (GWM) THE STATION IS ABOUT 2-1/2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF BOLIVAR, 9 MILES SOUTHEAST OF WHITEVILLE ON THE WEST SIDE OF STATE HIGHWAY 18 ON PROPERTY OWNED BY MR. ROBERT OWENS. IT IS 61 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 49 FEET NORTH OF A TELEPHONE POLE AND 3 FEET NORTH OF A WHITE WITNESS POST. THE MONUMENT IS FLUSH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS NO 3 1934. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE HARDEMAN COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN BOLIVAR, GO WEST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 64 AND STATE HIGHWAY 18 FOR 0.6 MILE TO A JUNCTION OF HIGHWAYS 64 AND 18. TURN LEFT AND GO SOUTHWEST ON HIGHWAY 18 FOR 2.2 MILES TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT. CONTINUE SOUTHWEST ON HIGHWAY 18 FOR 0.3 MILE TO THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. REFERENCE MARK 4 IS 48 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 91 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A TELEPHONE POLE AND 69 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF HIGHWAY 18 AND A DRIVEWAY EAST. THE MONUMENT IS FLUSH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS NO 4 1934. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS 29 FEET EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF HIGHWAY 18, 4 FEET SOUTH OF A POWER LINE POLE AND 3 FEET SOUTH OF A WHITE WITNESS POST. THE MONUMENT IS FLUSH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS 1934 RESET 1958. OWENS 1934 IS ON A BANK ABOUT 8 FEET HIGHER THAN THE ROAD LEVEL, 93 FEET EAST OF A TELEPHONE POLE, 120 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 18 AND A GRAVELED DRIVEWAY NORTH AND 44 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF HIGHWAY 18. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 8 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS 1934. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 26 METERS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1967 (LFS) THE STATION AND THE 1958 RESET AZIMUTH MARK WERE RECOVERED. THE DISK FOR THIS STATION HAD BEEN CHIPPED AROUND, BUT THE SHANK WAS STILL FIRMLY EMBEDDED IN THE MARK, AND AFTER IT WAS ASSURED THAT THE POINT HAD NOT BEEN MOVED, THE MARK WAS REPAIRED AND THE DISK FIRMLY CEMENTED AROUND. THE 1934 RESET 1958 AZIMUTH MARK WAS FOUND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. TWO NEW REFERENCE MARKS WERE ESTABLISHED DURING THIS OCCUPATION. FOLLOWING IS A NEW AND COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. THE STATION IS ABOUT 2.5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF BOLIVAR ALONG THE NORTHWEST RIGHT-OF-WAY OF STATE ROUTE 18, AND IS ON THE PROPERTY OF MR. ROBERT OWENS. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE HARDEMAN COUNTY COURTHOUSE SQUARE IN BOLIVAR, GO WESTERLY ON U.S. HIGHWAY 64 AND STATE ROUTE 18 FOR 0.6 MILE TO WHERE STATE ROUTE 18 BEARS LEFT. HERE BEAR LEFT ON STATE ROUTE 18 AND GO 2.2 MILES TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT AS DESCRIBED. CONTINUE SOUTHWESTERLY ON STATE ROUTE 18 FOR 0.3 MILE TO A FRAME HOUSE ON THE RIGHT AND THE STATION ON THE RIGHT AT TOP OF CUT AS DESCRIBED. THE STATION IS 78 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH CORNER OF A FRAME HOUSE, 61 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 18, 49 FEET NORTH OF A TELEPHONE POLE, AND 2.0 FEET NORTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND SIGN. IT IS A STANDARD REFERENCE MARK DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 10-INCH, SQUARE, FLUSH, CONCRETE MONUMENT AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS NO 3 1934. REFERENCE MARK NO. 5 IS AT THE TOP OF THE HIGHWAY CUT NORTHEAST OF THE STATION, 59 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 18, 56 FEET SOUTH OF THE EAST CORNER OF A FRAME HOUSE, AND 35 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH CORNER OF THE FRAME HOUSE. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 10-INCH, ROUND, FLUSH, CONCRETE MONUMENT AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS NO 3 1934 NO 5 1934 1967. REFERENCE MARK NO. 6 IS AT THE TOP OF THE HIGHWAY CUT SOUTHWEST OF THE STATION, 62 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 18, 39 FEET WEST OF A TELEPHONE POLE, AND 5 FEET EAST OF A 10-INCH ELM TREE. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 10-INCH, SQUARE, CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 4 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS NO 3 1934 NO 6 1934 1967. THE HORIZONTAL MEASURED DISTANCE BETWEEN REFERENCE MARK NO. 5 AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 6 IS 105.20 FEET (32.065 METERS). THE AZIMUTH MARK IS LOCATED ALONG THE SOUTHEAST RIGHT-OF-WAY OF STATE ROUTE 18 ABOUT 0.3 MILE NORTHEAST OF THE STATION, ABOUT 100 YARDS NORTHEAST OF A DRIVE INTO A SMALL COUNTRY STORE, 29 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 18, 4 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A POWERLINE POLE, AND 1.5 FEET NORTHWEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND SIGN. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 10-INCH, SQUARE, FLUSH, CONCRETE MONUMENT AND THE DISK IS STAMPED OWENS 1934 RESET 1958. THE MARK UNDER THE NOTE DESIGNATION IN THE 1958 DESCRIPTION SHOWS THAT AN UNDERGROUND MARK WAS ESTABLISHED.
