The Garrison Avenue Bridge has a benchmark at either end. This one is on the Moffett, OK, side and is located on the pedestrian walkway on the eastbound side of the bridge, west end. The disk is in good shape. The coordinates associated with this post are derived from GoogleEarth.

Being the easternmost BM in Oklahoma, I'm surprised nobody has been to document this one. The marker is in good condition as described.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1984 0.5 KM (0.3 MI) NW FROM FORT SMITH AR. 0.5 KM (0.3 MI) NORTHWEST ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 64 FROM THE CENTER OF THE BRIDGE OVER THE ARKANSAS RIVER, SET IN TOP OF THE BRIDGE (WALKWAY) AT THE NORTHWEST END OF THE BRIDGE OF THE SOUTHEAST BOUND LANES, 5.30 METERS (17.4 FT) SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE SOUTHEAST BOUND LANES, 4.57 METERS (15.0 FT) SOUTHEAST OF THE NORTHWEST END OF THE CONCRETE BRIDGE RAILING WHICH PROJECTS 0.7 METER (2.3 FT), 0.85 METERS (2.8 FT) SOUTHEAST OF A METAL POLE WITH A STREET LIGHT ATTACHED, AND 0.18 METERS (0.6 FT) SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST DEGE OF THE CONCRETE RAILING. THE MARK IS ABOVE LEVEL WITH SOUTHEAST BOUND LANES.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
