As popupcop said, this building is gone. The new courthouse bears marker FH0804.

The courthouse building noted in this listing burned in the mid 1930s and was replaced by a cut stone building in 1938.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1935 (CAS) THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS THE BASE OF THE FINIAL AT THE TIP OF THE ROOF OF THE TOWER ON THE SEBASTIAN COUNTY COURTHOUSE. THE COURTHOUSE IS A SQUARE RED BRICK BUILDING WITH A SLATE-COVERED GABLE ROOF. A 10-FOOT SQUARE TOWER RISES ABOVE CENTER OF THE TOP OF BUILDING. THE WALLS OF THE TOWER ARE COVERED WITH SHEET METAL. THE TOWER HAS A TALL NARROW LOUVERED WINDOW ON EACH SIDE AND A CLOCK ABOVE EACH WINDOW. THE TOWER HAS A PYRAMIDAL SLATE-COVERED ROOF WITH A DORMER ON EACH SIDE. EACH DORMER HAS CIRCULAR WINDOW AND A HIP ROOF WITH A BALL AT THE OUTER END OF THE RIDGE. THERE IS A SMALL CONICAL SPIRE WITH BALL AT TIP AT EACH CORNER OF TOP OF TOWER. THERE IS A SQUARE FINIAL WITH LARGE BASE AND BALL AT TIP OF THE ROOF OF THE TOWER. THE ENTIRE TOWER IS PAINTED SILVER. THE TOP OF THE TOWER IS ABOUT 100 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND AND IS ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT OBJECTS IN FORT SMITH. THE BUILDING WAS ERECTED IN 1887. THE COURTHOUSE IS IN THE BUSINESS SECTION OF FORT SMITH, IN THE BLOCK BETWEEN S SIXTH STREET ON THE NW, S SEVENTH STREET ON THE SE, ROGERS AVENUE ON THE NE, AND PARKER AVENUE ON THE SW. IT IS NEAR THE SIXTH STREET SIDE OF THE BLOCK AND ABOUT MIDWAY BETWEEN ROGERS AVENUE AND PARKER AVENUE. ROGERS AVENUE IS ONE BLOCK SW OF THE MAIN STREET OF TOWN.
