As described. Even setting the GPS to use the older spheroid puts you about 30 ft north of the remaining monument.

This was actually one of my first finds. Just wanted to test out my new GPS. Benchmark is as described in previous posts. You may want to park at the building just about .1 mile south of location.

Pretty cool the last person to claim this one was my stepdad. One of 4 benchmark finds today with luke911 on our Labor Day caching spree. As paramedman noted the benchmark is in very poor condition and my pic reflects the same thing as his -- only the center remains.

Very interesting marker. muggles prolly thought we had lost our mind wondering around the tracks :)

The monument is still in good condition, but the benchmark is like it was in 1994 in the NSG discription (POOR). Only the center of the disk remains.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1994.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
