DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1959 (SLH) THE STATION IS ABOUT 25 MILES EAST OF HOLBROOK AND JUST SOUTHEAST OF THE PAINTED DESERT. IT IS A 4-LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE SET IN A CONCRETE BASE HAVING AN OVER-ALL HEIGHT OF 70 FEET. THE TOP AND CENTER WAS THE POINT OBSERVED UPON. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAYS 66 AND 260, JUST NORTH OF THE POST OFFICE IN HOLBROOK, GO EAST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 66 FOR 22.7 MILES TO A MACADAM CROSSROAD. THE ROAD GOING TO THE RIGHT GOES TO THE PETRIFIED FOREST AND THE ROAD TO THE LEFT GOES TO THE PAINTED DESERT, TURN LEFT AND FOLLOW THE MACADAM ROAD NORTH FOR 0.2 MILE TO A MACADAM ROAD. (THIS IS OLD U.S. HIGHWAY 66) TURN RIGHT AND FOLLOW THE MACADAM ROAD EAST FOR 2.4 MILES TO THE STATION ON THE RIGHT.
