While geocaching and visiting Winslow found this marker.

Have to be a long distance shot between trains - this is a busy place and we had a homeless guy at the only access from the correct side.

such a neat town today. we stopped to get the virtual in the area and got that plus a traditional and this benchmark and a really really cool old car show in town

In Winslow for the evening at the La Posada Hotel giving me ample time to do a little benchmarking and geocaching. I was quite surprised to see no one had logged this benchmark in several years. It's still there in the middle of the concrete wall above the highway viaduct under the RR tracks. Perhaps the south side of the tracks is the wrong side of the tracks but it didn't stop me. You do have about a 100 yard walk to the benchmark that may be a deterrent for some folks.

Recovered in good condition. It has quite a bit of paint on it, but it is still recognizable.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
