Recovered in good condition. We also found RM2, but not RM1. Didn't get a chance to look for RM1.

This is only our second traverse disk we have recovered.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1962 (CAA) STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 1 MILE SOUTHWEST OF SELIGMAN, ABOUT 1 MILE SOUTH OF U.S. HIGHWAY 66 AND ON THE NORTH SLOPE OF A EAST-WEST RIDGE. TO REACH FROM THE MAIN CROSSROAD IN SELIGMAN (COPPER CART RESTAURANT IN SOUTHWEST CORNER OF INTERSECTION), GO EAST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 66 FOR 0.8 MILE TO SIDE ROAD RIGHT, TURN RIGHT CROSSING RAILROAD TRACKS AND GO SOUTH THEN WEST ON MAIN GRAVELED ROAD FOR 0.5 MILE TO FORK, TAKE RIGHT AT FORK AND GO WESTERLY 0.05 MILE TO CATTLE GUARD AND FORK, TAKE LEFT AT FORK AND GO WESTERLY FOR 0.2 MILE TO PIPELINE CROSSING, CONTINUE WEST ON GRAVELED ROAD FOR 0.65 MILE TO FORK, KEEP LEFT AT FORK AND GO WESTERLY 0.4 MILE TO TRIANGLE BLAZED TELEPHONE POLE, FROM HERE GO SOUTH-SOUTHWEST UP NORTH SIDE OF RIDGE FOR ABOUT 800 FEET TO STATION ON ROCKY RISE. STATION MARK, A STANDARD TRAVERSE DISK STAMPED SUB DISH 1962, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK WHICH PROJECTS ABOUT 1 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND. THE MARK IS 2 FEET WEST OF THE WITNESS POST. REFERENCE MARK 1, A STANDARD REFERENCE DISK STAMPED SUB DISH NO 1 1962, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK WHICH PROJECTS ABOUT 10 INCHES. THE MARK IS ABOUT 2-1/2 FEET HIGHER IN ELEVATION THAN THE STATION AND IS 36.9 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE WITNESS POST. REFERENCE MARK 2, A STANDARD REFERENCE DISK STAMPED SUB DISH NO 2 1962, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK WHICH PROJECTS ABOUT 15 INCHES IN THE NORTH SIDE AND IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND ON THE OTHER SIDES. THE MARK IS ABOUT 2 FEET LOWER IN ELEVATION THAN THE STATION AND IS 26.1 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF THE WITNESS POST. SELIGMAN, SANTA FE RAILROAD WATER TANK MAY BE USED AS AZIMUTH. A TRAVERSE CONNECTION WAS MADE FROM STATION SUB DISH TO DISH. THE DISTANCE IS 275.737 METERS OR 904.65 FEET. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 1 METERS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1971 (JHW) GENERAL LOCATION I 40, SOUTHERLY OF SELIGMAN. TO REACH FROM SELIGMAN, EASTERLY, TAKING THE FIRST ROAD RIGHT ACROSS THE RAILROAD TRACKS TO INT. 40, A DISTANCE OF 2 MILES, WESTERLY ON THE INT. FOR 1.15 MILES. PACK SOUTH ABOUT 500 FT UP A ROCKY SLOPE AND TO THE STATION. THE STATION IS A STANDARD REFERENCE MARK BRASS CAP, SET IN AN OUTCROP OF BASALT, UP 0.7 FT, STAMPED, SUB DISH 1962. R.M. 1 AND 2 ARE STANDARD USC AND GS REFERENCE MARK BRASS CAPS. R.M. 1 IS SET IN A 2-1/2 FT BY 3 FT BASALT BOULDER, UP 0.5 FT, SOUTHEAST OF THE MAIN STATION, AND STAMPED, SUB DISH NO 1 1962. R.M. 2 IS SET IN A 5 FT BY 4 FT BASALT BOULDER, UP 0.3 FT, LOCATED NORTHWEST OF THE MAIN STATION, STAMPED, SUB DISH NO 2 1962. DISH WAS USED FOR AZIMUTH.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1993.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
