Found in good condition. Beware of Train and/or a couple of yahoo's in a gold Honda Accord with a Freight Train air horn wired up on their car! Not funny!

Found this while placing a cache nearby. I placed it here because I found a book which referenced this underpass as "one of the oldest grade separations," (When I looked up the term grade separation, it was described as a "cloverleaf."

The date stamped into the east side of the trestle is "1902." However, a Tribune article dated November 9, 1888 reports "pile drivers and bridgebuilders have been at work on trestles and bridges over the Paso Robles, Graves and Atascadero Creeks."

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1968 AT ATASCADERO. AT ATASCADERO, ALONG THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD, AT THE OVERPASS OVER STATE HIGHWAY 41, IN THE TOP AND 1.6 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST END OF THE SOUTH CONCRETE RETAINING WALL OF THE OVERPASS, 5.5 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST RAIL, AND ABOUT LEVEL WITH THE TRACK.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
