Double strikes on this disk too - like FV1739 just down the beach. Point WM1 found. Missed Point WM2 - initially thought Point 2 RM drill hole (no disc) was it until the measurements didn't add up. Made a cursory search for WM2 but didn't see any other drill holes. Point 2 setting found but no disc - see FV1740 log.

Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1883 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1883 (SF) ABOUT 1 MILE TO THE SE OF WILLOW CREEK, ON THE MOST EASTERLY POINT IN VIEW WHEN LOOKING TOWARD CAYUCOS FROM THE MOUTH OF WILLOW CREEK. OFF THE POINT THERE IS A LARGE ROCK BEARING ABOUT S FROM THE STATION AND ABOUT 150 METERS DISTANT. THE STATION WAS MARKED BY A STONE BOTTLE BURIED 3 FEET BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND, NECK UP. ABOVE THIS WAS PLACED A REDWOOD STUB 2- BY 2-INCHES, ITS TOP EVEN WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. THE REFERENCE MARKS WERE LEAD BOLTS DRIVEN INTO HOLES DRILLED IN THE SOLID ROCK, EACH WITH A COPPER TACK IN THE TOP, THE BOLTS BEING LOCATED AS FOLLOWS--TO THE N, DISTANT 2 FEET 4 INCHES. TO THE S, 3 INCHES. TO THE E, 10 FEET, AND TO THE W, 1 FOOT 9-3/4 INCHES.
01/01/1916 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1916 (EBL) HOLES WERE FOUND IN THE ROCKS ON THE POINT, BUT DILIGENT SEARCH FAILED TO DEVELOP THE STATION. POINT 2 WAS ESTABLISHED, AND DESCRIBED.
01/01/1962 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1962 (CTH) SEARCH OF 1916 BY EBL FAILED TO UNCOVER THE BURIED BOTTLE, THE CENTER FOR THE STATION OF 1883. RECOVERED THE STONE BOTTLE, NECK UP, THE OPENING 12 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE, AND TWO DRILL HOLES IN ROCK OUTCROP, 9.98 FEET AND 8.21 FEET (8 FT. 2-1/2 IN.), WITHOUT CONTAINING THE LEAD PLUGS WITH COPPER TACK IN CENTER. FORMERLY IS WAS STATED THAT THE LEAD PLUG TO THE SOUTH WAS 3 INCHES DISTANT. IT IS BELIEVED THAT INADVERTENTLY THE BALANCE OF THE MEASUREMENT OF 8 FEET HAD BEEN OMITTED. THE STATION WAS REMARKED. A LARGE STONE WEIGHING BETTER THAN 400 POUNDS, UNCOVERED ABOUT 1 FOOT SOUTH FROM THE BURIED BOTTLE, WAS SHIFTED NORTHWARD SO THAT A DRILL HOLE COULD BE PLACED IN ITS CENTER TO COINCIDE WITH THE CENTER OF THE BOTTLE OPENING. IN THIS DRILL HOLE WAS CEMENTED A STANDARD DISK STAMPED POINT 1883. THE MARK WILL NORMALLY BE COVERED BY ABOUT A 2-INCH LAYER OF SOIL. THE DRILL HOLE TO THE EAST 9.98 FEET IS IN AN OUTCROP, LOWER AND WEST OF THAT CONTAINING THE REFERENCE MARK FOR THE STATION POINT 2 1916, ABOUT 9 INCHES ABOVE THE SURFACE. THE OTHER AT 8.21 FT, INTO WHICH WAS CENTERED A 30 CAL. CARTRIDGE CASE, IS ABOUT 3.8 FEET SOUTH OF STATION POINT 2, ABOUT 2 FEET ABOVE SURFACE.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1996. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
