Found WM to the east of the station. Did not find the WM to the west. Double strikes on the disk stamp.

I'll take an adjusted horizontal control set in a rock formation at the beach over a culvert headwall vertical control any day. :)

Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1883 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1883 (SF) ON A PROMINENT RED ROCK ON CAYUCOS POINT, ABOUT 100 METERS FROM THE BEACH AND 1/4 MILE TO THE WESTWARD FROM JOHN KERRS HOUSE. THE STATION WAS MARKED BY A RECTANGULAR HOLE IN THE ROCK. THE REFERENCE MARKS WERE LEAD PLUGS, WITH COPPER TACKS IN THE TOP, IN THE SOLID ROCK, AS FOLLOWS--TO THE N, 1 FOOT 7-1/2 INCHES. TO THE E, 3 FEET 3 INCHES, AND TO THE W, 3 FEET 10-1/2 INCHES.
01/01/1962 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1962 (WWH) STATION IS ON A LARGE ROCK OUTCROP ABOUT 20 FEET HIGH, DOUBLE POINTED WITH A SHALLOW CLEFT BETWEEN, THE POINTS 7 FEET APART, ABOUT 100 METERS NORTH FROM THE BLUFF LINE ALONG THE COAST, SOUTH FROM A HIGHER GRASS COVERED KNOLL AND SOUTHEAST FROM ANOTHER AND LARGER OUTCROP, 1.5 MILES WEST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 1 FROM THE BRIDGE OVER CAYUCOS CREEK AT THE NORTH LIMITS OF TOWN OF CAYUCOS TO CROSSING A LARGE CULVERT, THENCE STATION IS TO THE SOUTH AROUND THE KNOLL, 0.3 MILE OFF THE HIGHWAY. RECOVERED THE TWO REFERENCE MARKS, LEAD PLUGS WITH COPPER TACKS IN THEIR CENTER, EACH ON THE TWO POINTS FORMING THE TOP OF THE OUTCROP. THE RECTANGULAR HOLE IN ROCK, IN THE CLEFT BETWEEN THE TWO POINTS, MARKING THE 1883 STATION WAS STILL EVIDENT. PLACED A STANDARD TRIANGULATION STATION DISK CEMENTED IN DRILL HOLE, CENTERED WITH THE RECTANGULAR DEPRESSION, ITS POSITION AGREEING WITH THE 1883 MEASUREMENTS FROM THE TWO REFERENCE MARKS. AN INSTRUMENT SET-UP OVER THE STATION CAN BE MADE INCONCENIENTLY. THE LEAD PLUG AT 1 FOOT 7-1/2 INCHES, TO THE NORTH, WAS NOT FOUND NOR IS THERE ANY EVIDENCE WHERE IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN PLACED. THE WITNESS MARK PLACED IN 1916 AT 30 METERS SLOPE DISTANCE IN AZIMUTH 313 DEG 30 MIN 12 SEC WAS NOT RECOVERED, WHILE NOT DESCRIBED WAS PROBABLY A REFERENCE MARK DISK SET IN CONCRETE. STATION MARK IS STAMPED RED ROCK 1883. THIS STATION MAY NOT BE IN COINCIDENCE WITH RED ROCK 2 1916, AN UNMARKED LOCATION USED FOR HYDROGRAPHIC PURPOSES.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1996. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
