photoIt's out there

Found during our road trip through the southwest, during our hiking day in the Grand Canyon.

Found this benchmark while on a tour of the Grand Canyon. Whoever placed this had to be awfully careful of their steps!

Found this while touring the Grand Canyon on our Rt 66 road trip. This is my first benchmark. Easy to see. Just over the guardrail.

Found in good shape with a great view.

Found this little guy in good shape!

While our trip to the Grand Canyon and our walk along the rim trail we enjoyed the sunset in front of this point.
Now we figured out what it means to log a Benchmark! This was our first one!
Thank you for showing this place!
Greetings from Germany

Found this one after searching for a while. The listed coordinates are a little bit off but the coordinates on a previous log helped us to find it. Nice View.

Easy enough find using the documented history. This place is a Benchmarkers dream. We came across another bench mark that was listed on the site.

My coordinates are somewhere between the listed coordinates and someone elses. My elevation seems to be a little higher, too (7150.3 ft). I thought I had taken a picture of it, but the picture seems to be missing from my digital camera. Suppose I could have deleted it my accident. Anyway, I'm marking it as a find. Beautiful views!

Looked over and boom - there it was, wasn't even looking. Will ammend and download picture soon.

It was a cloudy rain day and within 15 minutes of finding this benchmark it turned to sleet then vertical snow. This picture shows the intersection of Bright Angel and Garden Creek canyons with the Colorado River's inter gourge, Grand Canyon.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code A indicates a distribution rate of 0.0 thru 1.0 mm/km.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
