OF ROCK CANYON, ON HIGHEST PART OF RIDGE WHICH IS VERY ROCKY AT THIS POINT, 100 FT. N. OF DIM WOOD-HAULERS RD. WHICH TRAVERSES RIDGE. TO REACH FROM FREDONIA, FOLLOW U.S. HWY. 89 6.7 MI SE. TO FORKS OF NORTH RD. OR WINTER ROUTE. TURN E. AND FOLLOW TO POINT ON TOP OF RIDGE 1 MI BEYOND TOP OF STEEP GRADE. GO 0.9 MI S. ON DIM WOOD-HAULERS RD. TO STATION. RECOVERY NOTE BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1953 (LGT) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON A FLAT-TOPPED, TIMBER-COVERED RIDGE JUST NORTH OF ROCK CANYON. IT IS ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE RIDGE WHICH IS VERY ROCKY. IT IS ABOUT 18 MILES, AIRLINE, EAST OF FREDONIA, ARIZONA, 1.0 MILE SOUTH OF AN OLD ROAD AND ABOUT 100 FEET NORTH OF A VERY DIM TRACK ROAD. THE OLD ROAD IS KNOWN AS THE NORTH ROAD OR THE WINTER ROUTE TO THE GRAND CANYON BRIDGE. TO REACH FROM THE ARIZONA CHECKING STATION IN FREDONIA GO SOUTHEAST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 89 FOR 6.4 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT AND A WIRE GATE. PASS THROUGH THE GATE AND FOLLOW THE GRADED ROAD, PASSING THROUGH TWO GATES AND CROSSING TWO CATTLE GUARDS, FOR 12.5 MILES TO THE TOP OF A STEEP GRADE. CONTINUE FOR 0.4 MILE TO A LEVEL SPOT AND THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT. CONTINUE EAST FOR 0.6 MILE TO A U.S.G.S. BENCH MARK, H 20 ELEVATION 6438 SET IN A PRECAST CONCRETE POST. THE BENCH MARK IS ON THE RIGHT OF THE ROAD AND A TRIANGULAR-BLAZED TREE ON THE LEFT. TURN RIGHT ONTO A VERY DIM TRACK ROAD AND GO SOUTH FOR 0.3 MILE TO A TRIANGULAR-BLAZED TREE ON THE EDGE OF A SMALL VALLEY. TURN SLIGHTLY LEFT AND CONTINUE IN A SOUTHERLY DIRECTION, CROSSING THE VALLEY, UP AND ALONG A RIDGE FOR 0.6 MILE TO THE STATION. THE STATION IS A U.S.G.S. BENCH MARK AND IS STAMPED NORTH ROAD 1933. IT IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN BEDROCK WHICH PROJECTS 6 INCHES. IT IS ON THE WEST SLOPE OF THE KAIBAB NATIONAL FOREST ABOUT 1.0 MILE EAST OF WHERE THE HILLS DROP SHARPLY TO THE VALLEY BELOW. IT IS 12 FEET EAST OF A WHITE WITNESS POST. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED NORTH ROAD USGS NO 1 1953. IT IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN BEDROCK WHICH IS FLUSH. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED NORTH ROAD USGS NO 2 1953. IT IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN BEDROCK WHICH PROJECTS 2 INCHES. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED NORTH ROAD USGS 1953. IT IS BRAZED TO A 2-INCH SOIL PIPE WHICH IS SET IN THE GROUND AND PROJECTS 8 INCHES. IT IS 12 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD LEADING TO THE STATION. IT IS 0.1 MILE EAST OF THE POINT IN THE ROAD WHERE IT REACHES THE TOP OF THE HILL, AND IS 6 FEET EAST OF A WHITE WITNESS POST.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1993.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
