Found as described.

This mark illustrates one of the reasons why I love benchmarking. This structure is one of the oldest European-era buildings left standing on the West Coast of the US, and it's host to one of the area's older benchmarks, too.

Mrs NW discreetly points to the mark, located on the curbing where her right hand is point, just beyond the post. This is the north end of the Customs Bldg.

Found it while looking for a geocache. In good condition.

Found in good shape. BM is becoming very well cleaned off and easy to find with the description, but unfortunately someone has put a large red arrow with a crayon or something on the adjacent Custom House building itself, pointing to the BM. I know people are well intentioned, but I'm not sure the State Parks would appreciate this unsitely graffiti on their Historic buildings :P

Near Monkey Grinder location.

Recovered in good condition with TrekkinD.

Spent a while looking for this one. MomLady and I got confused by all the NWs and NEs in the directions in the NGS description. We are usually not this spatially confused.

While trying to find this Disk I found the GPS zeroed out in a parking lot, But I was 410 feet at 309 degrees away from the disk. Read the write up and found I was really off so I went over to the building and looked for it without my GPS..

Found this at 2:05, after only a short search. It was obscured with dirt, which we cleaned off. In visual site of GU2090, and again very heavily trafficked. Very old marker from 1919 survey at what was once upon a time the most important building on the West Coast.

This is the best shot I've ever gotten of our GPS screen! Had to clean the dirt off the marker.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • This Tidal Bench Mark is designated as VM 957 by the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
