Prior doing our whale watch cruise I discovered the disk, I checked the prepared GPSr and I did recognized I could have found one. I checked further Dataset and tes, it is one I am rigth. Took pictures and claimed log found it now. By the way - cruise was amazing...

Happen to notice it while walking the pier.

Found as described.

During the Memorial Day weekend there were temporary signs along the trail here urging people to stay on the pavement and avoid the waterside. Apparently it's pupping season for the harbor seals (although who'd imagine they'd feel comfortable here with all these folks watching?). In any case, we observed this mark from the walkway side of the fenceline.

Looking along the east side of Fishermans Wharf, and at the mark below.

Just happened to spot this one while walking towards the boat to go whale watching. Easily visible from the walkway.

walking around the area with my caching pal and remembered a few benchmarks to get. In good condition and in described location.

Saw this one standing at the head of the Wharf 1 while on foot with Murph.

Found during a short night walk when I had a free hour. Did not realize in the dark the area was off limits.

Actually went to this one last week, but just now getting around to logging the find.

It's rather difficult to get a good photograph of this disk since you can look but not touch. I reached out as far as possible, zoomed in at the highest megapixels, and took my shot. Back home I blew up the photo to 100% (with an 8 Megapixel camera, that's one big photo!) then cropped the disk and resized it to be acceptable to the website. Hopefully, it's still legible after whatever other machinations the website does to it.

Easily found near end of wharf. Disk is in a fenced off area that is "Off-Limits"; however it's easily seen without crossing into the prohibited area.

Easily found right by the wharf.

There was a very large tripod over it and sandbags on the legs and a white dish on top, otherwise I might not have noticed it. I didn't have a digicam with me so I made a WP which was: N 36 36.223 W121 543.592 Which was pretty close to Altdotairs coods from last years.

On vacation from DE, standing on pier and just happened to look down and see this one.

Saw this one on my way to dinner. Didnt have a camera but it is right there.

Recovered in good condition with TrekkinD.

Recovered in good condition, just like in the pictures in the logs below.

Mannnn, I was right there!!! I'll get it next year. If you want really good calamari, I always make a stop at The Captain's Gig, on the Wharf. Mmmmmmmm squiiiiiid.

Sngans

Found this one after after watching the sea lions for awhile. Fun to watch the crowds putting their noses inside their shirts because of the smell of all those sea lions.

Cookie loves them benchmarks! Anyway, we were looking at a sea lion on the same outcrop when we happened to spot the benchmark -- so a nice little bonus to an otherwise great day in Monterey!

N 36° 36.223 W 121° 53.589

Found this one just a short walk from B 21 disk... It is in the corner of the Wharf and fences to prevent you access..
I found the coodinates off and the listed coodinates are 176 feet away bering 142 degrees.

Found it after a little triangulation at 14:01. This is in a place so densely trafficked it's amazing no one has logged it before. It's not technically accessible, but you could sneak out when there are fewer people around. As it was we had to explain ourselves to two people, one of whom clearly thought we were up to no good. The fuzzy picture was with the ultra zoom setting on the camera, the longer one we liked the seagull sitting on the rock, with the marker visible below the GPS. VERY close to 2088, which we also logged.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • This Tidal Bench Mark is designated as VM 956 by the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
