I feel certain the surface monument has been destroyed. Found RM1 & RM2 Destroyed lying at the base of Railroad cut. Sub-surface monument may still be here.

While I didn't find the all of the station marks, I did find reference mark #1 and #2. I wasn't so much looking to find this benchmark as I was just looking to see what benchmark was about to fall out of place. So after taking photos of reference mark #2 I was walking back to the truck and saw reference mark #1 had already fallen. Now that I have the written details for this benchmark I may stop and look around again next time I'm in the area.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1961 (HWK) THE STATION IS ABOUT 1/2 MILE OF THE CENTER OF ENSIGN, ON THE NORTH SIDE OF A RAILROAD TRACK AND RAILROAD CUT, IN THE SOUTHEAST QUARTER OF SECTION 35, T 27 S, R 27 W AND AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF A CULTIVATED FIELD OWNED BY MR. BEN REINERT. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE ENSIGN RAILROAD STATION, GO WESTERLY ON U.S. HIGHWAY 56 FOR 0.3 MILE TO A DIRT ROAD ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT, NORTHERLY, ON THE DIRT ROAD 0.05 MILE TO A WIRE GATE AT THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE FIELD (WIRE GATE IS ABOUT 50 FEET AFTER CROSSING THE RAILROAD TRACK). PASS THROUGH THE GATE AND GO WESTERLY ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF A FENCE FOR 0.05 MILE TO THE HIGHEST POINT ALONG THE FENCE AND THE STATION. STATION MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS STAMPED REINERT 1961. THE SURFACE DISK IS SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST WHICH IS 14 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. IT IS 103.5 FEET WEST OF A TELEPHONE POLE, 34.5 FEET NORTHEAST OF A TELEPHONE POLE AND 23.5 FEET NORTH OF A FENCE. THE UNDERGROUND DISK IS SET IN AN IRREGULAR MASS OF CONCRETE 44 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED REINERT NO 1 1961, IS SET IS A SQUARE CONCRETE POST WHICH PROJECTS 8 INCHES. IT IS 29.5 FEET WEST OF THE TELEPHONE POLE, 2 FEET WEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND 1 FOOT NORTH OF THE FENCE. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED REINERT NO 2 1961, IS SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST WHICH PROJECTS 8 INCHES. IT IS 34 FEET WEST OF THE TELEPHONE POLE AND 1 FOOT NORTH OF THE FENCE. BENCE MARK Z 191, IS A COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY BENCE MARK DISK STAMPED Z 191 1934, SET IN A ROUND CONCRETE POST WHICH PROJECTS 3 INCHES. IT IS 45.5 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH RAIL OF THE RAILROAD TRACK, 39 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF U.S. HIGHWAY 56, 7 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A TELEPHONE POLE AND 1.5 FEET EAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE ENSIGN RAILROAD STATION, GO WESTERLY ON U.S. HIGHWAY 56 FOR 0.3 MILE TO A DIRT ROAD ON THE RIGHT CONTINUE WESTERLY ON HIGHWAY 56 FOR 0.65 MILE TO BENCH MARK Z 191 ON THE RIGHT. NOTE--REFERENCE MARKS MEASURED WITH 5 KG. TAPE TENSION. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 23 METERS.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
