With the coordinates and the phtos from the logs before it was an easy find in the heat :smile:.

More than two years after the last found it's still in perfect condition :grin:!

Found as described, in good condition. Pull over into a small pull-off and almost parked on top of it!

DESCRIBED BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1931 13.3 MI NE FROM ROCKVILLE. 13.3 MILES NORTHEAST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 15 FROM ROCKVILLE, WASHINGTON COUNTY, 165 FEET EAST OF THE EAST END OF A LARGE ROCK CUT, 100 FEET WEST OF A 1-FOOT CORRUGATED IRON PIPE CULVERT, 45 FEET EAST OF A 2-FOOT CORRUGATED IRON PIPE CULVERT, 24 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND IN THE TOP OF A RED SANDSTONE OUTCROP. A UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY STANDARD DISK, STAMPED H 6 1931 5424.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1983 RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. 16.25 KM (10.15 MI) EAST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 9 FROM THE CHURCH OF LATTER DAY SAINTS IN SPRINGDALE, IN TOP OF AND 1.2 METERS (4 FT) SOUTH OF THE NORTH AND TOP EDGE OF A MASSIVE SANDSTONE RIDGE, 0.95 KM (0.6 MI) WEST OF THE WASHINGTON-KANE COUNTY LINE, 6.8 METERS (22.5 FT) SOUTH OF THE HIGHWAY CENTERLINE, 17.7 METERS (58 FT) SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE HIGHWAY FROM THE WEST END OF A SMALL ROCK CUT. THE MARK IS ABOVE LEVEL WITH THE HIGHWAY.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
