Finding a few benchmarks while in town for the EC mega.

Sarah and I found this one as our UT benchmark in the Fantastic Four challenge. At this o[point we had only one more benchmark to grab.

Found in good condition on the high point between the Hwy 15 lanes. Also found RM3 and RM2=SM32.

Recovered in good condition. Did not locate RM1, but it may still be there. There was quite a bit of slippage on the side of the knoll where RM1 should be and it is probably covered. Did not probe for the RM.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 (NES) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON A SMALL KNOLL ABOUT 8.5 MILES SOUTH OF ST. GEORGE UTAH AND JUST NORTH OF THE ARIZONA-UTAH STATE LINE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN ST. GEORGE, GO EAST ON TABERNACLE ST. FOR 0.7 MILE TO 700 EAST ST., TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTH FOR 3.5 MILES TO A FORK, TAKE RIGHT FORK AND GO SOUTHWEST FOR 5.1 MILES TO A CATTLE GUARD AT THE ARIZONA-UTAH STATE LINE. CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD FOR 0.5 MILE TO A FORK, TAKE RIGHT FORK AND GO SOUTHWEST ON BLADED ROAD FOR 2.6 MILES TO A WIRE GATE, PASS THROUGH GATE AND CONTINUE SOUTHWEST ON TRACK ROAD FOR 0.6 MILE TO A FORK, TAKE RIGHT FORK AND GO WEST AND NORTHWEST FOR 1.15 MILES TO THE INTERSECTION OF 3 ROADS, TURN RIGHT ON THE TRACK ROAD THAT LEADS NORTH-NORTHEAST AND GO 1.35 MILES TO THE BASE OF A SMALL KNOLL ON THE RIGHT AND END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. IT IS A BRASS PIN CEMENTED IN THE TOP OF 4 INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST THAT PROJECTS 8 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 AND THE GLO MARK WERE NOT FOUND AND ARE BELIEVED TO BEEN DESTROYED BY GRADING OF THE NEW HIGHWAY. THE DISTANCE TO R.M. NO. 2 CHECKED WITH ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION, A DIFFERENCE WAS FOUND IN THE DIRECTION TO R.M. NO. 2. THE DIRECTION TO THE AZIMUTH MARK CHECKED. R.M. NO. 3 WAS ESTABLISHED AND IS DESCRIBED BELOW. OWNERSHIP--STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. TO REACH FROM THE UNDERPASS AT THE JUNCTION OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 15 AND STATE HIGHWAY 18 (BLUFF STREET, EXIT 6) ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF ST GEORGE, GO SOUTHWEST ON HIGHWAY 15 FOR 10.16 KM (6.30 MI) TO A PAVED MEDIAN CROSSOVER JUST BEFORE REACHING THE STATE LINE.   • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in April 1995.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code A indicates a distribution rate of 0.0 thru 1.0 mm/km.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
