This was totally coincidence. I didn't know anything about benchmarks before, because we don't have them in Europe. When I was preparing to our trip I read the listing of one cache where the benchmark was mentioned. I read something about it, but not so much. Then we visited the Bryce Canyon and when we leaved the canyon we stopped here at the nice view point. Suddenly I saw this benchmark!

Locating benchmarks is a very strange thing. While in Bryce (and earlier on our trip to the Grand Canyon), I saw and photographed many benchmarks whose waypoints don't appear here. Fortunately this one does and, so, here's my log. Of course, my primary purpose for going to Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, etc. was not to log benchmarks! Very beautiful and breathtaking.

Mystery Benchmark! Attached is a photo of a benchmark found way out at Sunset Point. It is set in the middle of the viewing area near the cliff, but is worn nearly smooth, and is definitely not HO0522. It is definitely a benchmark, but the only discernable unique info is the 8000 stamped on it.
Also, isn't it interesting that the USGS info on HO0522 says 8294, when the actual mark (per the photos) have 8295. Typo? Or has the benchmark been replaced & updated over time?
I'd welcome anyone else's observations!
Thanks!
