found while doing the et trail

Another benchmark that we found while caching along the E.T. Highway.

Found while caching in the area.

We found a few bench marks while doing the ET trail, this was one of them

While enroute to Nevada's Oldest Cache I did some benchmarking and even a few caches on the ET Trail. We left Rachel, NV about noon and headed north grabbing benchmarks along the way. What a beautiful day to be out caching and benchmarking. TFT"BM"!!

During our ET & Route 66 trip we also did some sightseeing, we've discovered a lot of Benchmarks, this was one of them.
TFTB.

While doing the E.T.trail, Route 66 and some sightseeing, we (fscheerhoorn, eikenhofjes, M.I.Casa and hoekraam) have seen a lot of Benchmarks, this was one of them.

I logged this benchmark while climbing Tikaboo Peak for an Area 51 Panorama. I hiked up Tikaboo Peak on 8/12/10 with a 45 lbs backpack. Camped just below the summit and took a panorama the next morning.

This is a fairly hard hike to this peak, but well worth the try. The trail is better marked with blue ribbon thanks to my buddy marking the trail. Go out and have some fun and tell your friends that you saw Area 51.

My GPSr showed an elevation of 7897 feet. Quite different than the 8000 stamped on the disk. The ground approach is pretty much as described.

Tikaboo Peak is only place from which you can you can see the Secret Air Force Base at Groom Lake. It is also sometimes known as "Area 51" From the FAQ at http://www.dreamlandresort.com

"Area 51 is a top-secret military test and development facility, operated by the US Air Force. It is located within the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR), north of Las Vegas. It is operated as Detachment 3 of the Air Force Flight Test Center, headquartered at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Several high-tech super-secret planes were developed and tested here, including the U-2, F-117 Stealth Fighter and the SR-71 Blackbird. More recent projects include the rumored high speed high altitude "Aurora", various unmanned planes (UAVs) and a new stealth plane to replace the F-117.

Some believe that the research at Area 51 also includes Alien technology. Supposedly the remains of the alleged UFO crash near Roswell, NM in 1947 ended up here and are used to reverse engineer alien technology. However, there is no credible evidence to support such claims."

Tikaboo Peak is "Mecca" to those who believe in Government conspiracies to cover-up the UFO crash in Roswell, NM because you can see a base that the US Government says doesn't even exist. From Tikaboo Peak you can see the base with your own eyes. Binoculars or a spotting scope bring buildings and runways on the dry lakebed into view. It is a very interesting place to visit and the view, in general, from the top is a spectacular 360 degree panorama.

Starting from the SE on the left this pan probably covers 200 degrees, passing west in the middle up to north on the right.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1998.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
