As Wintertime noted, the survey marker is missing, but the hole is still there. My wife and I used our tape measure to confirm that this hole is indeed 200 feet east of the west end of the stone retaining wall.
The NGS has decided to officially record this survey marker as destroyed.

A 1986 USGS survey reported: "The indentation on the top of the stone retaining wall where the disk had been remains, but the BM has been removed."
Indeed, the indentation is easily visible on the wall of the overlook. It's too bad the benchmark is gone, but how can you complain too much when you've still got a view like this to look at?

Empty hole for benchmark is right under my GPS receiver, marked by yellow arrow.
