Was speaking to a local merchant about the firehouse while eating lunch. Turns out she is friends with the owner of the former fire station. So I got permission to snap a pic and teach a little her a little bit about benchmarks. Mark is in good condition and currently painted white. The flag pole is still standing but the base is starting to be overgrown with ice plants.

The City of San Jose sold this property last year.

This is now private property, please consider that before making claims for this benchmark. We should not be trespassing on some guy's front yard.

N 37° 25.521 W 121° 58.557

The disk is still in the base of the flagpole, however as others have noted this is no longer the Alviso Firehouse but is a private residence. Also the address is now 1590 Gold Street, not 4758 Gold Street.

This is the private residence that was once a Fire Station.

Found while out geo-hunting in the area with tendara

Found with mytwndr as discribed by others

Found TIDAL 3/RESET 1970 in good condition. The building appears to be used by someone for something, so this is technically in someone's front yard, 10' in front of a picture window. I didn't see anyone today, though.

You can see the big window overlooking the benchmark.

Found with Oaknest after enjoying a nice lunch in Alviso.

Fire station is now empty and for sale.

Recovered in good condition as described. However, the station has relocated and the totem pole along with it. Hopefully the property and the BM will survive.

Wonderful! A California Bay Area firestation with a totem pole! Oh, yes, and a benchmark.

Sorry - just realized the totem pole isn't in this photo. Oh well. It's in some other logged photos.

Found as described, in good condition.

We're out this way doing some CITO work. Found this on the way to the "Outdoor Warning" cache.

Found it but I need to come back and snap a pic.

It's often easy to find a benchmark that has the street address in the description =)

The Fire Station is on Gold St, and the flag pole is right out front.

the mark is in the base of the flagpole.

Found this one after having lunch at Ernie's Mexican around the corner on 2/4/03.

At the Alviso firestation. Note that the address
of the fire station has changed, differing from the official decription it is now 1590 Gold Street

Notice that the flag was still at half-mast on 2/4, two days after the loss of the space shuttle Columbia. BM is in the base of the flagpole.
