Recovered in good condition just northeast of the intersection of Santa Clara Street and 17th Street, at the southwest end of the concrete bridge over Coyote Creek, on the southeast side, near the base of the concrete guardrail corner pillar supporting a light pole. In the sidewalk that now covers the old wing wall, 36.8 feet north of the north corner of Fire Station No. 8 building, 29.4 feet southeast of the painted center line of Santa Clara Street, 2.5 feet south from the corner point of the concrete guardrail, 1.3 feet south of the vertical center-line of a tile mural in the guardrail wall, 0.7 feet west of the west side of the guardrail wall, and ½-inch below the sidewalk.

GPS (HH2) coordinates were: N 37° 20.637 W 121° 52.440

This has been marked with spray paint as “BM985” – that fits the City of San Jose designation format but is not listed in their online database.

photoHS3030 - Disk – San Jose CA.
Hard to photograph this disk – it is covered with concrete and paint and droppings from the trees above. Like duckeylee said, it looks like sometime between 2006 and 2008 the sidewalk had concrete added on top of the disk.
photoHS3030 - Eye level view.
Note the spray-painted designation.
photoHS3030 - Looking northeast.
If you visit, bring your pressure washer to clean up the sidewalk and the mark.
photoHS3030 - Looking southeast across Santa Clara St.
Arrow points to the location of the mark. Building is Fire Station No. 8 for Engine Company No. 8.

In pretty bad shape. Looks like it had gotten covered up with concrete and then uncovered again...

Finally stopped by to get this one on way home. Marker is in bad shape.
photoTilework by marker
The Tilework by the marker is in better shape.

First benchmark. Looked pretty good considering how many people walk by it each day.

This is only a few blocks from my house and I've been meaning to talk over and find it... but the current quest got me up and over there.

Been to this bridge a couple of times for caches and such, finally made it over with enough time to stop for the benchmark. There are some small scrapes but overall it's in very good shape.
