After a short hike in Mt Madonna to find a few new geocaches....I thought I'd take the back way down. When I got to my cache here I thought I'd look to see if there were any benchmarks nearby....since there are often times BMs near bridges. Yup! A quick find. Now I know what a 'chiseled square' is!

N 37° 02.059 W 121° 42.477

Recovered in good condition. Description is adequate. Has been difficult to get to due to blackberry vines, which were recently cut back. Good satellite reception +/- 10 feet.

DNF #2. Found what shoudl be the correct corner but didn't spot the mark. Maybe there under the thorn vines or dirt, or paint, or pavement for that matter. Saw a small chunk missing from the concrete in what could be the right spot too.

Probably there but the info I had in the GPS wasn't enough to find it. I realized later that I should have just looked it p in my Palm, doh.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in February 1993.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
