It only took me one trip around the building to find this one.

This is my second benchmark, and the first on a static object (my first benchmark was on a trackable). Since 2009 the building has been repainted in a darker color, but the benchmark is still clearly visible.

Easy to spot on the building wall. Will post a few pics. -Batch218-

I think this makes the fourth Benchmark that I've discovered mounted to the side of a building. It appears that the painters realized the importance of this disk (or just read the warning on it) and masked off the majority of the disk before painting this building.

Easy to find at the corner of Third and State Streets, but the firehouse is no longer there.

This Benchmark Bingo contest worthy benchmark is right on my way to work. I detoured a few blocks this morning, took my photos before dawn, and headed off to work.

A pleasure to join the procession. The overhanging roof makes GPS reception difficult, with an error range approaching thirty feet. Still, what we got may be somewhat better than the scaled: N 37 22 46.6, W 122 06 57.6. Raising each decimal integer by one would get closer, probably.

Arguably the most popular benchmark in the area. Easy to find and pretty permanently mounted.

Visiting the old firehouse with the benchmark as the bonus...

N 37° 22.779 W 122° 06.964

This is the second benchmark I've found located this way. I stood about 12' west of the BM at N 37° 22.779, W 122° 06.966 to get reception away from the protruding roof for an EPE of 15'. I had two GPSr's and the Magellan said N 37° 22.778, but agreed with the Garmin on the longitude.

The benchmark is in great condition.

An easy find on the corner of the Assistance League of Santa Clara County's Costume Bank building.

The mark itself is hidden by a hedge in this photo, but it's on the wall to the right of (around the corner from) the flag and the "Costumes" sign.
N 37° 22.781 W 122° 06.960

I assumed that this would be easy to find, since others had found it. But I didn't take much information down, and had to wander until I found the right building.

What was the fire department is now the National Assistance League Costume Bank. I inquired inside and was told that this building was, in fact, at one time the Los Altos Fire Department. Since then the Fire Department has moved to San Antonio and Almond and has been incorporated into the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

Perhaps this engine was at one time housed in the building on the corner of State and 3rd (now the Costume Bank).

CashCow Got a clearer photo than I did, so I won't post one. It was farmers market day in Los Altos. I wondered about how this was a fire station, too. I wish I had thought to take a picture of the building, but I think the openings would be big enough for some older, smaller fire/rescue vehicles (e.g., paramedic trucks).

Ditto cashcow's remarks. When I first looked for this marker, I forgot the printout and couldn't read the location and ended up in the parking lot. After reading the description I was able to find it right away.

The fire station is no longer...and it's hard to tell if the current structure was a part of the station. There's a parking lot behind the building which could have been part of the station...as the current building is not big enough and/or designed to house fire trucks.

I found the benchmark where I was supposed to. The coordinates posted had me searching in the parking lot behind the building...which was about 150 feet from where I found it.

The Women's Assitance League of Los Altos operate a costume rental in the building today.
