Aside from my usually 'dry' benchmark logs as of late, this one deserves some additional elaboration.

Egads, what a way to protect a mark! I've noted a number of 'missing' marks along the coast, not just from those that were dislodged by farming equipment either so this devilish entity looks like it's doing a good security job here...sure kept me from walking around the short fence for a close-up shot of the benchmark!

One of the funner ones to go after, all right! While I was taking a few pics, three other vehicles showed up, everybody wanting to photograph the surroundings. Will post a few images. -Batch218-

Found it... but only because I spotted the undead witness

I've tried to find this one a few times, but timing was bad once and the other time I was just plain stupid or blind (or possibly both). The new updated, unofficial log from Nazgul helped immensely.

Don't you wih they'd update the description? Like this:

"... 22 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF A DRIVEWAY SOUTHEAST TO FARM YARD AND A BARN, 28 1/2 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE CENTER OF THE SOUTHWEST END OF A CONCRETE SIDEWALK LEADING TO A HOUSE, 7 FEET BEHIND AN UNDEAD GUARDIAN FROM HELL ARMED WITH A KALASHNIKOV AKM-TYPE VARIANT."

photoI don't feel welcome though!

Found it quite by surprise while doing the geocache here. Looks to be in good shape and is certainly well-guarded. 50sumtin

Found it while stopping for the cache. Very interesting yard here. Benchmark is still in good shape.

Saw this while looking at GC7E82, at the same location! So had to document the benchmark, too.

Somewhat blurry, but the number should be visible okay.

The white sign on the witness post is visible behind this very strange sculpture where the driveway joins Stage Rd. The benchmark is in the concrete post just visible in front of the witness post.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
