Wow... this brings back huge memories. I grew up nearby and used to go to Refredies(sp?) market all the time as a kid. That was a cool blast from the past to read the note and description.

There's now a large concrete sign for the U.S. Post Office in the area 32' north of the center line of Stevens Creek Blvd. and 108' southwest of the southwest rail of the Union Pacific tracks.
There are no remnants of a concrete foundation supporting a light pole in the immediate area. The nearby sidewalk, access road to the post office, and the landscaping seem relatively new. I'd consider this Benchmark destroyed.

It is doubtful that this bench mark exists. Shell station was torn down 20 years ago. Refredies Market is now the Cupertion post office.

4.6 MI N FROM SARATOGA. 2.0 MILES NORTH ALONG SUNNYVALE-SARATOGA ROAD FROM THE POST OFFICE AT SARATOGA, THENCE 2.6 MILES NORTHWEST ALONG THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD, AT MONTE VISTA, AT THE CROSSING OF STEVENS CREEK BOULEVARD, 4.65 MILES SOUTH OF MOUNTAIN VIEW, 108 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST RAIL, IN THE TOP OF THE EAST SIDE OF THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION OF A SHELL OIL COMPANY LIGHT POLE FOUNDATION, 32 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE BOULEVARD, 0.6 FOOT EAST OF THE IRON PIPE POST SUPPORTING THE LIGHT, AND ABOUT 1/2 FOOT HIGHER THAN THE TRACK.
- The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
- The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
- The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
