Found bench mark one foot east off Park Blvd just north of the entrance to Fort Winfield Scott - Kobbe Ave.

Found parking on a side street just south of Kobbe Ave. Believe this street is Hitchcock Street.

Parking a few hundred feet to the north at the intersection of Park Blvd. & Schofield Rd., as I walked along the east side of Park Blvd. toward the marker, I discovered two other cemetery markers just north of HT2259 (33). The number stamp on one - 34 - was relatively easy to read. The stamp on the other was scraped away, probably by lawnmower blades. I spotted a fourth monument position, however, the mark had been completely stripped away, with just the marker stud remaining. I'm certain many more markers must exist! Will post images. -Batch218-

Found

This is the first survey mark I've found that was monumented by the U.S. Army Office of the Quartermaster General, and was for a national cemetery. According to this page on the National Park Service website, the Army had plans to expand the Presidio cemetery in 1961. I suspect that this mark was part of the survey project for that expansion, which was never done.

I came upon the marker while searching for a geocache in the area. It is in good condition.

Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1961 by USA (MONUMENTED)
01/01/1977 by NGS (GOOD)
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1977 IN SAN FRANCISCO. IN SAN FRANCISCO, AT THE PRESIDIO, 150 FEET NORTH OF THE ENTRANCE TO FORT WINFIELD SCOTT, 15 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF PARK BLVD, AND 1 FOOT EAST OF THE EAST CURB.

Control Text

 • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
 • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
 • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
 • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
 • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
