DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1947 (SPH) THE STATION WAS NOT OCCUPIED BUT WAS TIED IN BY DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM THE EAST BAY MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT STATION MILLS, WHICH IS ON THE SUMMIT OF THE SAME HILL AND ABOUT 0.1 MILE NORTH NORTHWEST AND 30 FEET HIGHER. THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION OF THE STATION COULD NOT BE OBTAINED. THE STATION MARK AND THE TWO REFERENCE MARKS WERE RECOVERED AND ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. THE STATION MARK, STAMPED MILLS 1929, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A BEDROCK OUTCROP, 6 FEET BY 2-1/2 FEET, PROJECTING 18 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND. IT IS ON THE SOUTH SLOPE OF THE SUMMIT, 23 METERS SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD AT THE LAST BEND BEFORE IT REACHES THE SUMMIT, AND 13 METERS WEST OF A DROP OFF INTO A SHALLOW DRAW. THE STATION IS 149.230 METERS (489.600 FT.) SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF STATION MILLS EBMUD. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, STAMPED MILLS NO 1, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A BEDROCK OUTCROP, 6 FEET BY 4 FEET, PROJECTING 1 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND. IT IS ON THE CREST OF THE LOW RIDGE THAT RUNS JUST NORTHEAST OF THE HUGE QUARRY BELOW AND IS ABOUT 28 METERS SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, STAMPED MILLS NO 2, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A BEDROCK OUTCROP, 4 FEET BY 4 FEET, PROJECTING 3 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. IT IS AT THE WEST EDGE OF THE DROP OFF INTO THE SHALLOW DRAW AND ABOUT 20 METERS SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION REFER TO THE DESCRIPTION FOR MILLS EBMUD.
01/01/1964 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1964 (EHS) THE ENTIRE AREA IN WHICH THE STATION WAS LOCATED HAS BEEN GRADED DOWN DURING QUARRYING OPERATIONS. STATION LOST.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in March 1994. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
