DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1957 (RLE) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 4-1/2 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF MOUNTAIN VIEW, 4 MILES SOUTHEAST OF LOS ALTOS ON THE TOP OF THE EAST BANK OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD AND ON A DIRECT LINE SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE AND THE END OF GRANT ROAD. IT IS 58 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF HOMESTEAD ROAD AND 57 FEET EAST OF THE EAST RAIL OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD TRACKS. IT IS STAMPED VISTA 1957 AND SET FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS 27.5 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF HOMESTEAD ROAD AND 1 FOOT NORTH OF A FENCELINE. IT IS STAMPED VISTA R.M. 1 1957 AND SET FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 58 FEET EAST OF THE EAST RAIL OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD TRACKS, 31 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF HOMESTEAD ROAD AND 31 FEET NORTHEAST OF A POWERLINE POLE. IT IS STAMPED VISTA R.M. 2 1957 AND SET FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE CONCRETE AT THE EAST SIDE OF GRANT ROAD AND JUST SOUTH OF A SHELL SERVICE STATION. IT IS 58 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH ENTRANCE TO THE SHELL SERVICE STATION, 38 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF GRANT ROAD AND 6 INCHES WEST OF THE EAST EDGE OF THE CURB. IT IS STAMPED VISTA 1957 AND SET FLUSH. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 9 AND U.S. HIGHWAY 101 (EL CAMINO REAL) IN SUNNYVALE GO SOUTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 9 FOR 2.0 MILES TO HOMESTEAD ROAD, TURN RIGHT AND GO 1.9 MILES ON HOMESTEAD ROAD TO THE BEGINNING OF GRANT ROAD AND THE STATION ON THE LEFT AS DESCRIBED. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE STATION GO NORTH ON GRANT ROAD FOR 0.5 MILE TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE RIGHT AS DESCRIBED.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1958 (JCM) THE STATION MARK, AZIMUTH MARK, AND REFERENCE MARKS WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION AND THE 1957 DESCRIPTION IS ADEQUATE WITH THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONS-- 1. THE STATION MARK IS ABOUT 125 YARDS SOUTHEAST OF THE INTERSECTION OF HOMESTEAD ROAD, EL SOROME AVENUE, GRANT ROAD, AND STEVENS CREEK ROAD. 2. REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 2 IS 51 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF HOMESTEAD ROAD AT A POINT WHERE IT CURVES FROM WEST TO NORTHWEST.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1975 (CLN) THE AZIMUTH MARK WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION BUT THE STATION MARK AND REFERENCE MARKS 1 AND 2 WERE NOT RECOVERED AND HAVE EITHER BEEN DESTROYED OR PAVED OVER. THE ROADS IN THE VICINITY HAVE BEEN REALIGNED, THE RAILROAD TRACK HAS BEEN REMOVED, A SERVICE STATION HAS BEEN BUILT JUST EAST OF THE STATION SITE, AND THE AREAS WHERE THE MARKS WERE LOCATED ARE NOW COVERED WITH ASPHALT PAVEMENT. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN--4 MILES SOUTHEAST OF LOS ALTOS

  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
