Found on the homeward leg of my "Tour d'Arlington" bike ride today. Unfortunately my cell phone camera is on the fritz. NPS needs to get in here and do some serious weed-whacking!

Found as described, in good condition. Memorial is one of the most beautiful in DC - which is saying a lot.

View to the SW of the memorial and mark. Mark is lower left of the image, to the right of GPSr. Crane in the background is part of work renovating the Humpback Bridge - hopefully it will be a lot nicer for cars, bikes and pedestrians when it's done.

A beautiful setting along the Potomac and an interesting monument - a combination memorial to those who have lost their lives at sea and to honor those in the navy, coast guard and merchant services today - make this a worthwhile mark to visit. Check out the interesting detailing on the sculpture.

As I found this benchmark, a funeral procession was happening across the Potomac River in Washington DC for Officer Hakeem Farthing, a U.S. Park Policeman killed by a drunk driver while he was on duty. There were many police vehicles on the road across the river, police boats in the water, and fireboats shooting water. Quite a procession. The associated pictures were taken from the benchmark's location.
